· MOUNTAINCOW MONTHLY NEWSLETTER (BONUS WEDDING ISSUE)

Spring weddings are just around the corner so we’ve designed some special projects to help you or anyone you know get hitched with style. Use PrintingPress for more than just your invitations: take your design and apply it to your wedding programs, place cards and even the table numbers for your reception. We carry all the printer-compatible stationery you’ll need in our online store and you can also order full sheets or custom card sizes of any color paper for a completely coordinated wedding.

Even Hollywood has turned to Mountaincow for wedding invitations. Our hydrangea design is seen in the hit movie Hitch!

Also just in time, we’re excited to introduce our new book Easy Invitations, the complete guide to printing invitations on your home computer. In addition to two chapters devoted to both traditional and modern style wedding stationery, the book is full of great ideas, beautiful photos and expert tips on invitations, etiquette and party planning.

We also have a new line of bridal stationery to help you before the big day. Choose the hair color, skin color and dress color for the bride and bridesmaids and you have the perfect stationery for a bridal shower or bridesmaid lunch. The mini notes will come in handy for the bride who wants to write a note of thanks to her special girlfriends.

A Twist on Tradition
Whether you’re planning to go the classic route with inner and outer envelopes, or if you see your big day filled with pink polka dots, we have a design for you. With every project we’ve embraced one constant: color. Want to make it more traditional? Swap the greens and purples for classic ivory or white. Interested in making it modern? Use lowercase letters for everything. Looking for a way to stand out but not go too off the beaten path? Change the orientation or the margins on a standard 5x7 card.

The fine print
We’ve created 2.0 and Platinum versions for almost every project in the newsletter. The 2.0 projects have similar design elements to the ones photographed, though they may be achieved through an extra step. Upgrade to Platinum now for more design features and to save time.

A few things to keep in mind: if you want to go with a lower-case only invitation, you will need to adjust the names and addresses in your address book. When printing place cards with the 2.0 version you must make a separate card in order for the word “table” to be written in lower case. Don't want to do the extra steps? Upgrade to Platinum now!

Spot on invitation
For an invitation that really stands apart, color the card with green polka dots and pair it with our Clover envelopes. Because the dots are imported as a background pattern, this project can only be created with the Platinum version of PrintingPress. The invitation uses black text with just a shot of white to draw the eye to the engaged couple’s names. The Benjamin Drop Cap font from Fonts & Graphics, Collection 2 was used so all the proper names on the invitation carry a bit more weight than the rest of the words. Then the couple’s names were written in a larger point size to really stand apart. This invitation was printed on white cards paired with Clover envelopes. A coordinated reply card and envelope are included in the invitation.

For the reception, a menu card uses the same design element as the invitation by making the ampersand in the couple’s name white. The place card and table number also use the contrasting black and white text against the polka dot background for continuity.

Flower Power
We’re psyched for spring, so we created a simple daisy in green to top our Sour Apple stationery. The green on green combination is so sharp, you can almost smell the freshly cut grass!

A perfect invitation for an outdoor spring or summer wedding, we used all lower case letters in Jackson Junior Wide to keep with a casual style. Because proper names are kept lower case, we made the names of the couple almost twice as big as the rest of the text so they stand out. We also set the top margin low to bring attention to the flower image. For a more formal look, try a script font with proper capital letters and an even margin on the top and bottom.

The green flower was repeated on the reply card, and then at the reception, guests will see it again on the menus, place cards and table numbers. The flower is even used on a thank you note. If you prefer, use the couple’s names instead of writing “Thank you”.

For 2.0 users to print an image on the place card, a separate card the size of the place card is created with the image and the table number on it. The card is printed once as a place card with the guest’s name, and then sent through the printer again as a regular card for the flower and table assignment.

Justify their love
This invitation uses a simple print text without any variation in size or even capital letters. Then why does it look so chic? First, the Platinum version is fully-justified, meaning the text lines up evenly on both sides. This gives it a formal, typeset look. The margins of both versions are generously set to one inch all around. Also, the only part of the invitation not fully-justified is the word “to” that joins the couple’s names. The eye is immediately drawn to this design interruption and the couple about to wed gets the attention they deserve. Lastly, the Deep Red envelope adds a sophisticated and festive note to the creamy ivory paper.

The Platinum version can make the reply card and envelopes all use fully-justified text, as well as the place cards for the reception.

Enjoy the landscape
Want an invitation with a different perspective? Turn your stationery on its side and try designing it in the landscape orientation. For this invitation, we kept all the text aligned to the right except for the couple’s name, which is aligned to the left and made boldface. We used Beckles Wide in brown on the pink card to tie into the envelope color of our Cupcake stationery. This modern color combination is perfectly suited for the unconventional orientation and lettering.

All of the text used on the other elements of the invitation – the reply card and envelopes – is right aligned as well.

Bubble up
For an invitation pretty in pink, add bursts of bubbles on the Sweet line’s Cotton Candy stationery. The pink circles interspersed with Beckles and Beckles Wide text creates an energetic wedding invitation that would also work well for bridal showers or a special bridesmaid brunch.

Platinum users can add the circles as a background image, and place the text over top, varying the right, center and left alignment of the text, to wrap the details of the party around the design. This is also done on the table number, menu and place card.

Larger than life
Who says all your text has to necessarily fit on the paper? For a striking design, we used Isabelle Tall font from our Fonts & Graphics, Collection 2 for the bride and groom’s names and made them extra large so they took up most of the card. To see what a difference your color and paper choices make, we’ve created this project for both our Amethyst and our Café au Lait stationery.

For the invitation, menu and wedding program, we used the couples name in the script Isabelle Tall in a soft shade of the lavender to coordinate with the Amethyst stationery from Mountaincow’s Modern line. The rest of the text appears in a deeper color and in Jackson Sans Wide print. Platinum users can do this in a text box, allowing the text to overlap. This design is the perfect blend of tradition with just a hint of a modern design from the small cap font.

To carry out this design at the reception, the numbers on the place cards and table numbers are large script font filling up most of the paper. We also created a ceremony program to coordinate with this project by using the same design concept, font and paper colors. To make a matching program for any of the other projects, follow the margins, alignment and colors from the other stationery pieces.
