Top 10 Design Ideas For Table Cards

In years past, table cards were just white squares with a big, black number on them. The reception hall just put them on the tables; it wasn’t even something the bride and groom considered. But now, table cards are as much a part of the table décor as menu cards, place cards and the colors of the tablecloth, napkins and centerpiece. You can create your table cards with so much more than a big, black number, bringing your own personalized style to the centers of your tables. Here are the top ways to design your own beautiful table cards:

  1. Coordinate colors
Use colored card stock, matching the hue to your tablecloth, floral centerpiece, candles, chargers or plates. For instance, a deep purple and lavender palette in your centerpiece would work nicely with a light lavender table card.

  2. Give it shape
While you’re certainly free to use a square card for your table marker, you could also use a different shape coordinating with your table setting. For instance, the new trend in oval or triangular plates would tie in nicely with an oval or triangular table card.

  3. Use a great font
Experiment with your chosen font to find the perfect style, and to make sure that all numbers are perfectly legible, that your 1’s are easily distinguishable from 7’s, 3’s from 8’s and 0’s from 9’s. Go large and bold so that your guests can read them in dim lighting.

  4. Layer it
Just like with menu cards, a table number card can be printed on one color card stock and then hot glued to a coordinating colored or fabric-covered backing card.

  5. Spell it out
Rather than use numerals such as 3 or 7, add an elegant touch by spelling out the numbers: Three and Seven.

  6. Use your words
Instead of numbering your tables, use wedding-appropriate words, such as Joy, Forever, or Eternity. Or tell your love story by naming tables after cities you’ve visited together, or a specific memory like ‘waterfall’ with an explanation on the card that you got engaged by a waterfall. This way, every guest will feel like he or she is at a special table.

  7. Match your theme
Your table cards can also bear the names and images of flowers for a garden wedding, exotic islands for a beach wedding, vineyards for a wine and cheese reception, or movie stars for a Golden Age of Hollywood-themed wedding.

  8. Use both sides
Print the number or word on both sides of the table card so that it can be seen from front and back.

  9. Avoid overkill
You don’t need to glue on colored stones to match the ones in the centerpiece, or have tassels hanging from it to match the elegant one on the menu card. The simpler and more elegant your table card design, the better.

  10. Get framed
If you plan to use picture frames to display the table numbers, use standard photo sizes for your cards such as 4”x6”, 5”x7” or 8”x10”. Or get creative with other holders like photo clips or clothespins.
