HOME · MOUNTAINCOW MONTHLY NEWSLETTER (OCTOBER 2005)

Ready to get extreme this fall? Mountaincow is! To coincide with the release of our newest, most advanced invitation software, we’ve added PrintingPress Extreme projects in this newsletter. You can enjoy the new design tools of the software upgrade while creating spooky Halloween party invitations, sophisticated personalized stationery, a classic monogram with a modern flair or a card customized with names and dates honoring a special occasion to hold a monetary gift.

A treat before tricking
Invite the neighborhood kids over for some pre-trick-or-treating fun by throwing a tailgating party. Have fall-themed activities ready like bobbing for apples and make sure the cameras are ready to capture the kids in their costumes.

PrintingPress users can create a fun invitation using a jack-o-lantern image and the Ryan font from Fonts& Graphics 3. Printed on a folded white card, the inside reveals the details of the party. Pair with Chocolate A2 envelopes.

Platinum users can scare up some Halloween guests by using a background image of a ghost with the party details written in Brina and Brina Strong from Fonts & Graphics 3 in the center. We printed the A7 design on 5x7 cards and then trimmed around the outline of the ghost. If you’re not feeling crafty, you can print the A6 design on the standard A6 card and you’re set. Either invite will slide right into a Deep Orange A6 envelope. To order the cut-out combination, please order A6 cards and envelopes and add in the Comments section during checkout “please substitute A7 cards for the A6 cards.”

The Extreme design uses a text box shaped like a key hole. The white text in the Colin font from Fonts and Graphics 2 pops off the black background. The background of the invitation is set to a solid orange and another text box with writing bent in a circle frames the key hole. The invitation fits in a Deep Orange A6 envelope.

Custom coolness
PrintingPress Extreme is packed with design tools that give you the flexibility to create borders and patterns exactly how you want them. In this project, a circle monogram with a pink background is outlined in a custom dark pink and white border. The background of the card is filled with pink polka-dots made from the pattern-creator tool and then framed with a custom border to match the monogram. The folded white card fits in a Blush A2 envelope. A copy of the circle monogram in black is printed on the back flap of the envelope above the return address.

Autumn Annotations
Change your stationery with the seasons. Fall means notes to the teacher and catch up letters to summer pals in rich browns, greens and blues. To accommodate your varying stationery needs, we created both flat and folded options for all versions of PrintingPress. Since we have a variety of color combinations that use our Chocolate envelopes, you can print the brown design on almost any color combination from the Modern stationery line with fabulous results.

The PrintingPress design combines the rich fall tones of Pistachio stationery with a brown acorn image. We used Benjamin Shadow from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings to personalize the bottom of the flat card and the center of the folded note card.

The Platinum design stays with the autumnal theme, but uses a border of miniature acorns around the perimeter of the Café au Lait card, with the name in Noodles from Fonts & Graphics 3 in the middle of the folded card and at the top of the flat card.

The Extreme project uses Blueberry Truffle stationery and the name is written in Ryan which is included with the Extreme software upgrade. If you haven't upgraded to Extreme yet, you can also purchase Ryan in Fonts & Graphics 3. For both the flat and folded cards, the names are written in lowercase in two separate semi-transparent text boxes that overlap slightly. The envelopes have been designed to use only lower case letters to match the stationery. When names and addresses are filled in from the mailing list, they will be converted to all lowercase.

Check please!
When you’re planning to give money as a gift for a big event such as a wedding or bar mitzvah, oftentimes you don’t think about the card you’re putting it in until you’re heels are on and you’re walking out the door. Even if the limo is waiting, there’s time to whip up a quick yet beautiful card to pass along your wishes – and your dinero.

The PrintingPress design uses elegant text and flourishes from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings to create an elegant card with the couple’s name and the date of the wedding in Alyssa Black Tie. We used blue for the text and added a matching blue flourish below it. It’s printed on an ivory card and paired with a Dusty Blue A7 envelope. We used an inner envelope to just print the names of the couple.

The Platinum design also uses an ivory card and fonts from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added the couple’s names and the date of the wedding in light blue using Benjamin Caps, separated by a large ampersand in Alyssa Black Tie, which we made brown to coordinate with the Chocolate A7 envelope. For a formal touch, use Alyssa Black Tie on the envelope for the couple’s names.

The Extreme design is perfect for a beach-y wedding with the couple’s names and their wedding date typed in a circle around a sand dollar silhouette from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. A Deep Red A7 envelope coordinates with the red text on the ivory card.

Don’t get cut off
If the print at the bottom of your card or the border is getting cut off, you're probably limited by your printer's un-printable margin. All printers have a minimum distance from the edge that they can print in the normal printing mode. Some printers can print all the way to the edge of the card (also known as borderless printing), but in the normal case many bottom-feed printers require at least 5/8" from the edge of the card, and top-feed printers can require up to ½" from the edge of the card.

To make your card look its best, try adjusting your margins so that they are all at least as large as your printer's printable margin. That way, nothing will get cut off, and everything will be evenly spaced.
