-------------------- Graduation Day --------------------
If (like us!) you’re proud parents accepting the fact that your beautiful baby has somehow (overnight?) grown up and will soon graduate from high school or college… Well, let us buy you a drink! But seriously, it’s a huge milestone and you can go ahead and shout it from the rooftops. Although sending out graduation announcements might be an easier way to spread the news. We’ve created some fabulous new designs featuring photos of the soon-to-be grad. All of our grad designs feature luxurious Natural Cotton cards and use free fonts from fontsquirrel.com and dafont.com that you will need download to use in each project. Professionals, make sure you double-check that the license allows commercial use.

Have too many photos of your graduate to choose just one? Our PrintingPress 7.0 Traditional Elegance Grad design is just what you need. We created a collage of gorgeous photos using the Crop tool to create a row of square photos at the top of the Natural Cotton A7 card. Next, we wrote the graduate’s name in nonmetallic gold using the Windsong font in all lowercase letters. We wrote “CLASS OF 2017” and the high school name and graduation date below in gray using the Cinzel font. We lined the White envelopes in Metallic Vintage for a polished look.
If your graduate’s style is more modern, with an urban twist, then check out our PrintingPress Platinum 7.0 Grunge Typography Grad design. We started by adding a fabulous photo as a background image on a Natural Cotton A7 card. Next, we typed the grad’s name and graduation year into the main text area of the card using the Nexa Rust font in white. We used a floating text box to add an arrow using the Veneer Extras font and placed it between the name and the year. We then used another floating text box to write the words “CLASS OF” in black using the Frente H1 font and centered it above the arrow. We wrote the graduate’s full name, high school, and graduation date at the bottom of the card in white using the Frente H1 font. Since the photo runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. After printing, we rounded the corners of the cards with a corner punch. To complete the look, we lined White envelopes in Metallic Slate.
Have a photo with a busy background that makes text hard to see? Our PrintingPress Extreme 8.0 Sheer Banner Grad design has the perfect solution. We started by adding the photo as a background image to a Natural Cotton A7 card. Next, we used a shape to create a semi-transparent black stripe to make a semi-solid background for the text. We used floating text boxes to add all the text using the Belacu, Nexa Rust, Variane Script and Nexa Rust Extras Free fonts. To learn how we created the semi-transparent stripe with floating text boxes, see this month’s Extreme Tip. Since the photo runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature and then rounded the corners using a corner punch. We lined the White envelopes in Metallic Vintage for a touch of elegance.
-------------------- For the Love of Mom --------------------
If you’re lucky enough to have a wonderful, loving Mom, make sure you appreciate her this Mother’s Day! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make her feel special; everyone knows the best gifts come from the heart. So make her a fabulous brunch, buy her some flowers, and give her beautiful personalized stationery that was custom made just for her. Our new stationery designs feature both flat and folded options, include return address envelopes, and use free fonts from fontsquirrel.com, dafont.com and 1001fonts.com.

If your mom has simpler tastes, you might want to go for our PrintingPress 7.0 Follow the Dotted Line Stationery. We started with a Cinnamon A7 card and wrote Mom’s name at the top of the card in black using the Sacramento font. We used periods “.” to create a dotted line on either side of the name. We repeated the same design on the front of a Cinnamon A2 Folded Note Card and used a corner punch to round the corners after printing. We lined the White envelopes in Black for a modern look.
Does your Mom love color? Check out our PrintingPress Platinum 7.0 I Love Lemon Stationery. We started by adding a large, bright yellow pair of lemons to the upper right corner of a White A7 card. Next, we added Mom’s name in magenta using the Shellahera Script Demo font. Professionals, please purchase the commercial license. The lemon runs off the edge of the flat card so we used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print the flat cards. We repeated the design on the front of a White A2 folded note card and rounded the corners of the cards with a corner punch after printing. We added the lemons to the back of the White envelopes as well and wrote Mom’s address in magenta using the Frente H1 font with a 0.25 point outline. The finishing touch? Magenta striped Custom Envelope Liners.
Our PrintingPress Extreme 8.0 Painted Roses Stationery adds a modern twist to a classic style. We started by adding a duo of painted roses to a White A7 card. We placed the roses at the right side of the card so that they run off the edge. Next, we used a floating text box to add Mom’s first name using the Windsong font. Then we used another floating text box to add Mom’s last name using the Georgia font that is included with Windows and bent the text into a gentle curve using the Arc text shape. We repeated the design on the front of a White 4-Bar Folded Note Card and used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print both cards. We added the roses and some fabulous styling to the return address on the back of the White envelopes and lined them in Blush.
-------------------- Semi-Transparent Stripe --------------------
This Extreme Tip is so easy you almost won’t believe it. We used PrintingPress Extreme 8.0’s shape tool to create a black stripe running down the side of this month’s Sheer Banner Grad design. But what makes the stripe so great is the fact that the photo shows through it just a bit. So first, we added a black shape to the card. We used floating text boxes to add all the text elements, and you can see it looks a bit stark with the solid black stripe.
In order to make the stripe semi-transparent, we selected the shape and then set the Transparency to 60 in the Adjust palette in the Design palette group.
That’s it! See how great it looks?
