Wedding Bells & Save the Day
March/April 2016

--------------------  Wedding Bells  --------------------

As everything blooms around us here in New England, we can’t help but think of wedding bouquets! If you’ve got a big day on your horizon, you’ll love our new invitation designs featuring our luxurious Natural Cotton stock. The fresh color schemes are perfect for a late spring/summer wedding and can easily be changed to suit your wedding colors.

Leaf Garland Wedding

Our PrintingPress 7.0 Leaf Garland Wedding design is the perfect mix of classic and modern. We started by adding a leafy branch as a floating image to a Natural Cotton Square card. We duplicated the branch over and over, rotating each one as we went, to create a garland encircling the card. We typed the invitation text in gray with a touch of green using the Georgia font that is included with Windows. We used all lowercase letters for a whimsical touch. After printing, we rounded the corners of the cards using a corner punch. We added the same leafy branches to the top of the Natural Cotton 4-Bar response card and both White Linen envelopes, which we lined in Celery.

Metro Wedding

Want something über modern? Our PrintingPress Platinum 7.0 Metro Wedding design is just what you need. We started by typing the bride and groom’s names to a Natural Cotton A7 card in dark gray using the Impact font that is included with Windows. We joined their names using a pink ampersand for a splash of color. Next, we created a faux text shadow by copying the names, pasting them into a floating text box and then floating the text box behind the main text area. We used underscore characters “_” to create lines above and below the names, leaving a blank space in the middle of the top line to leave room for a darling little pink heart. We added the rest of the invitation text in gray using the Trebuchet font that is included with Windows in all lowercase letters. We repeated the same type styling on the Natural Cotton 4-Bar response card and on the envelopes. We used a corner punch to round the corners of the cards and lined the White envelopes in Blush.

Flower Garland Wedding

Our PrintingPress Extreme 8.0 Flower Garland Wedding design is perfect for a wedding in a rustic setting. We started by adding colorful garlands of flowers to the top and bottom of a Natural Cotton A7 card. Next, we used floating text boxes to add the bride and groom’s names in pink using the Isabelle font from Fonts & Graphics 2. We adjusted the Horizontal Stretch and Skew of the font to straighten up the characters and narrow them a bit, then rotated the names and placed them beneath the flowers. For tips on manipulating the font using stretch and skew, see this month’s Extreme Tip. We wrote the rest of the invitation text in brown using a combination of the Isabelle and Georgia fonts, using a few floating text boxes to add text bend into delicate curves. We added more flowers to the Natural Cotton 4-Bar response card and used a corner punch to round the corners of the cards after printing. To complete the look, we lined the White envelopes in Deep Pink.

Cropped Heart Save the Dates

Want something with clean lines? Try our PrintingPress 7.0 Cropped Heart Save the Dates. We started by adding a striped heart image to the left side of a Natural Cotton A7 card. We made the heart the full height of the card and placed it so that only half of the heart is visible. We kept the type styling clean and simple, using the same gold as in the heart and dark gray in the Trebuchet font. We lined the White envelopes in Metallic Brass and rounded the corners of the card with a corner punch after printing.

Fun Dots Save the Dates

Our PrintingPress Platinum 7.0 Fun Dots Save the Dates really are fun! We added a playful border of pink and faux gold dots to a Natural Cotton A7 card and then wrote the wedding date in HUGE type using the Georgia font. That’s sure to get noticed, right? We used floating text boxes to add the bride and groom’s names in pink using the Alyssa Black Tie font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We rotated the names so they dance among the dots. After printing, we used a corner punch to round the corners of the cards. For a touch of elegance, we lined the White envelopes in Metallic Vintage.

Twin Arrows Save the Dates

Looking for something clean and fresh? Our PrintingPress Extreme 8.0 Twin Arrows Save the Dates are just what you need. First, we typed the bride and groom’s names onto a Natural Cotton A7 card using the Courier New font that is included with Windows. We separated the names with a giant coral ampersand and then used bullet characters “•” to add dots below the names. We typed the wedding date into a floating text box and used the Arc text shape to bend it into a graceful curve above the names. We typed the wedding year below the names and framed the year with two arrow images. Lastly, we wrote “PLEASE SAVE THE DATE” in coral below the year. We rounded the corners of the card with a corner punch after printing and lined the White envelopes in Coral.

Extreme Tip

--------------------  Skew it Right   --------------------

PrintingPress Extreme 8.0 includes many powerful features to let you customize the look of text, and this month we used the Horizontal Stretch and Skew features to give our font a makeover. First, we started with the Isabelle font in a rotated text box. The font has a 1 point outline to give it more definition.

Before

Next, we set the Skew for the Eloise text box to 40. See that font stand up straight!

Skew

In order to make the font look a bit more mature, we set the Horizontal Stretch to -20. Perfect!

Horizontal Stretch

Since we only changed the Eloise text box, you can really see how the look of the text has completely changed. To finish it off, we repeated the same modifications for the other two text boxes.
