Tip of the Month

Too cool for school
It’s not quite time for caps and gowns yet, but graduation ceremonies are coming soon. If you know someone about to complete a milestone in their education, why not create some hip personalized stationery to mark the event? Include the coordinating StationeryStamps and you may even receive a thank you note!

Our PrintingPress design features our Waterfall stationery and a graphic including the Chinese characters “xìng yùn,” meaning good luck or good fortune, atop a stylized splash and plumes. The design is printed on the lower left corner of the White A7 card, with the name in the upper right corner using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. The positions are adjusted on the front of the White A2 folded note card. The coordinating good fortune StationeryStamps will help your graduate stay in touch.

If your graduate loves the tropics, then check out our PrintingPress Platinum design featuring our Granny Smith stationery. We added a background image to the stationery with a strip of black and white palm trees on a field of avocado green. We used a floating text box to add the name using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We increased the horizontal spacing in the text box to create an airy look. We created a similar design on the front of the White 4-bar folded note card, placing the strip of palm trees at the bottom of the card. Since both designs bleed all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print both cards. For a finishing touch, give your grad a sheet of palm tree silhouette (avocado, black & white) StationeryStamps as well.

For the athlete, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design which features Matte White cards and Metallic Slate envelopes. We created a stylized image of a snowboarder mid-jump and added it to the bottom right corner of the White A7 card. We used a floating text box to add the name using the Boys on Mopeds font from the Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. We set the Shape of the text box to Bend Up and set the Curve height to 0.2 for a shallow arc. Then we duplicated the text box, set the text  color to white, and moved the white text box behind the blue one to achieve a white “shadow” effect. We used a similar snowboarder on the front of the White A2 folded note card, setting the text shape to Bend Down instead. The coordinating snowboarder StationeryStamps complete the look.

Lots of labels
Sometimes you need to mail something that just won’t work with your printer, such as a package or a letter in a black envelope. With PrintingPress Extreme 4.0, you’ve got it made in the shade. You can create any size labels that you like, and you can specify any sheet size.

In this project, we created 2 x 4 inch address labels, ½ x 1 ¾ inch return address labels, 3 1/3 inch shipping labels and, of course, coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps. We created a motif for each label that features the first letter of the last name atop a green flourish design. We used a floating text box to add the initial in brown using the Alyssa font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We also added dotted line borders for decoration and to separate the address from other details on the address and shipping labels. Customize your own Custom Image StationeryStamps with your own initial and everyone at the post office will take notice.

A great gift
Whether you have a friend with a birthday or a relative who just moved into a new home, personalized stationery always makes an excellent gift. Choose a design that suits the recipient’s taste, and you can create a fantastic personalized present in a snap. Our new spring stationery designs offer a variety of styles and colors.

Our PrintingPress design features a floral motif printed on our Mint Truffle stationery. We added the name at the top of the Margarita A7 card in brown using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added a brown and green cherry blossom image to the bottom right corner of the card. We added a similar design to the front of the Celery A2 folded note card. Pair both with Chocolate envelopes lined in Celery, and throw in a sheet of cherry blossom (avocado & brown) StationeryStamps on Ivory Sheets.

For a sophisticated color palette, try our PrintingPress Platinum design, featuring our Café Latte stationery. We added an image of a budding pussy willow branch on the left side of the Ecru A7 card. We added the name in brown using the Noodles font from Fonts & Graphics 3. We repeated a similar design on the front of the Ecru A2 folded note card. Both cards are paired with Chocolate envelopes, which we lined in Ecru.

Feeling bold? Try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design, featuring our White / Clover stationery. We added a custom stationery border with the shape set to Line (Top) and set the width to 1.5 inches. We filled the border with a vibrant new green and white hibiscus pattern. Then we used a floating text box to add the name in black using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings above the strip of flowers. We turned off the Make white transparent setting on the text box so that the white background remains opaque. Next we added a custom border to the text box using the Ticket (Landscape) border shape. We created a similar design on the front of the White 4-bar folded note card, instead filling the background of the card with the pattern. Since both designs go all the way  to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print the cards.

Special Occasion in a Snap

A day to remember
When you’re planning a wedding, it is important to let your guests know the date and location as early as possible to make sure that they can attend, especially if they need to make travel plans. With our beautiful new save the date cards with coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps, you can be sure that your guests will mark their calendars.

Our PrintingPress design uses our new Mandarin Orange stationery, paired with a White card to create a layered effect. We added orange blossoms to the top right corner of  a White 5.75 x 4 inch custom cut card. We added the words “Please Save the Date’ in the same orange using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings, and then added the wedding info in black using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We wrote the bride and groom’s names and the “Formal invitation to follow” in orange as well. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the card to a Mandarin Orange A6 card. Slip it into the Mandarin Orange A6 envelope and send using coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

For an elegant look, try our PrintingPress Platinum design, featuring a Mountaincow Black Linen A2 Landscape Pocket Folder (pointed flap). The pocket allows you to insert a card with hotel information for out of town guests. We added a black silhouette of a tree on the left side of the White 4-bar card. We added the wedding information in black using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings and added the bride and groom’s names in avocado using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We used a floating text box to add the words “Formal invitation to follow” in Benjamin Caps beneath the tree. We used a double-stick tape gun to mount the card to an Avocado 5.375 x 4 inch custom cut card. Next we mounted the set to the Pocket Folder. We printed the hotel information onto a White 4-bar folded note card and tucked it into the pocket. We used the 4-up feature to print 4 seals on a single White 4-bar card, then trimmed the seals down to 2.5 x 1.75 inches. We mounted the seals onto Avocado custom cut 2.75 x 2 inch cards and then adhered the set to the Pocket Folder’s flap. Send in an Avocado A2 envelope lined in Ecru and add coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

For a sophisticated design with a modern twist, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design, featuring an Avocado Mountaincow Pocket Folder in the A2 Landscape Pocket Folder (rounded point flap) size. We added the Chinese characters for double happiness atop a bunch of avocado flourishes to the upper left corner of an Ecru 3.75 x 5 inch custom cut card. We added a custom dotted line stationery border with the Shape set to Line (Left) and the left margin set to 2 inches to move the border to the right of the graphic. We aligned all the text to the right of the main text area and used the Benjamin Caps and Alyssa Afternoon fonts from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We set the vertical alignment to Justify Vertically to evenly space the text on the card. For more information on this feature, see this month’s Extreme Tip. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the invitation to a Black Linen 4 x 5.25 inch custom cut card, then stuck the set onto the Avocado Pocket Folder. We printed the hotel information onto an Ecru 4-bar folded note card and tucked it into the pocket. We used PrintingPress Extreme 4.0’s label feature to print a sheet of 2.625 x 2 inch seals onto a full 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of Ecru card stock, then trimmed the seals down to size. We adhered the seals to Black Linen 2.875 x 2.25 inch custom cut cards and mounted the completed seal onto the Pocket Folder’s flap. Send in Ecru A2 envelopes lined in Avocado and add coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Vertical justification
PrintingPress Extreme makes it easy to evenly space your text vertically between the top and bottom margins on your stationery. When text is entered in the main text area, you can click on the Justify Vertically button in the Line Spacing toolbar or choose Align Vertically, Justified in the Text menu.  This will automatically adjust the line spacing to keep the text vertically justified between the margins whenever you make changes.  You should then be able to make changes as needed to the names and dates and have the text adjust accordingly. In our example in this month’s newsletter, we entered all our text with the vertical alignment set to Top, and added a few extra lines to separate blocks of text.

Align Top

Then we set the vertical alignment to Justify Vertically to evenly space the text within the stationery margins.

Justify Vertically

If you are using a floating text box, the text will be spaced evenly relative to the boundaries of the text box. If you click on your text box to select it and click on the Justify Vertically button in the Line Spacing toolbar or choose Align Vertically, Center in the Text menu, then when you use the drag handles to stretch the text box vertically, the text in the text box will automatically reformat to be evenly spaced vertically.
