Our PrintingPress design features a red silhouette of a long horn steer at the top of a Cinnamon A7 card. We added the invitation text in the same red using the Times New Roman font in all uppercase letters. After we printed the card, we used a corner punch to round the corners of the invitation. We lined the Deep Red envelopes in Ivory and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps with the message “It’s time for a Texas BBQ!” beneath the longhorn.

For a BBQ with a beach club feel, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. We started by adding a background image with bold blue and yellow stripes to a White A7 card. Next, we added a dark blue bumblebee silhouette as a floating image at the top of the card. Then we used floating text boxes to add the invitation text using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We expanded the character spacing on the text boxes to give the text an airy look, and then we set the text boxes’ horizontal alignment to Justified to make each line in the text box the exact same length. We added a black version of the bumblebee above the return address, and set both the address and return address to use the Justified horizontal alignment. Since the background runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Midnight envelopes in Yellow and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps with the bold stripe design.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design sets the scene for a western-themed BBQ. We started by adding a custom border to a White A7 card. We filled the border in a gingham pattern we created using the custom pattern tool. For tips on creating your own gingham pattern, see the Extreme Tip from the June 2009 issue. Next, we used a floating shape object to complete the border. We created the shape and set the shape’s background color to white. Next, we added a blue 2 point outline and inner pen to the shape’s border. Then we gave the shape’s border a 0.1 inch fill and filled it in the same blue. Finally, we set the border’s Fill Type to Shape to repeat white circles around the border. We set the border’s spacing to 7 to spread out the circles within the border. We added an image of a red cowboy boot directly into the main text area of the card, and added the invitation text in the same red using the Times New Roman font with the Text Case set to Small Caps. Since the gingham goes all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Deep Red envelopes in Midnight and added a black version of the cowboy boot to the back flap of the envelope and wrapped the return address in a circle around the boot. For tips on bending text in a circle, see this month’s Extreme Tip. We also added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps with the red cowboy boot and blue dotted border.

Reserve the date
If you’re newly engaged, one of the first things on your to-do list is to let everyone know your wedding date so that they can block it off on their calendars. Save the date cards are a very helpful way to get the job done and let you express your wedding style at the same time. Whether you’re planning an informal or extravagant affair, we’ve got some great new designs for you.

For a simple design with a modern flair, check out our PrintingPress design. We added an image with a strip of a geometric design to the bottom of a White A7 card. We set the Left, Right and Bottom margins to zero so that the image runs to the bottom and side edges of the card. At the top of the card, we added the future bride and groom’s names in green using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We joined the names with a blue ampersand without any spaces. We added the wedding details in blue using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings and then added the words “Invitation to follow” in blue using the Alyssa Afternoon font. Since the geometric design runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Midnight envelopes in Clover and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps with the couple’s names and the wedding date.

Our PrintingPress Platinum design is perfect for a sporty pair. We started by adding a striped border image along the bottom of a White A7 card. Next we added an image of a pair of tennis racquets joined by a heart at the top of the card. We added the words “game, set, match” beneath the racquets in pink and green using the Times New Roman font. We added the wedding details below in green using all lowercase letters. Since the border goes all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Clover envelopes in Blush and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps with the tennis racquets and the wedding date.

If you’re in the mood for modern elegance, then our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design may be perfect for you. We started by adding a custom border filled with a new geometric beads (turquoise) pattern to a White A7 card. Next we added the future bride and groom’s names in turquoise using the Isabelle font from Fonts & Graphics 2 with a 0.25 point outline. We joined the names with the word “and” written in orange using the Arial font with the Text Case set to Small Caps. We set the Horizontal Stretch for the Arial text to 20 and set the Character Spacing to 3 for a modern, airy look. We increased the margins to 1.375 inches and set the text’s vertical alignment to Vertically Justify Text to evenly space the lines. Since the border runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We used the same text styles and colors for the address and return address on the White envelopes, which we lined in Teal. To finish the look, we added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps with the couple’s names and wedding date.

Going round and round...
PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 lets you bend text in floating text boxes into 16 different shapes. For a basic overview of each of the shapes, check out our online software tour. For our example here, we’re going to show you how to bend a return address around an image on the back flap of the envelope just like we did in this month’s Extreme BBQ invitation. First, we modified the return address text so that it is all in one line using bullet characters to separate each group of text.

Next, we choose Circle in the Text Shape combo box in the Paragraph palette in the Text palette group.

This bends the return address into a circle.

Next, we select the text box and click in the Height (% of original size) field in the Size palette in the Design palette group and use our mouse wheel to decrease the size of the text box. When we set the text shape to Circle, PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 automatically set the text box’s Horizontal Alignment to Justify Text, so the text will automatically space itself evenly as you shrink the text box. We continued to scroll the mouse wheel to decrease the size of the text box until it wrapped snugly around the cowboy boot.

Then we clicked in the Rotate by Degree field in the Size palette and used the mouse wheel to rotate the text box until the names were centered at the top.
