Tip of the Month

Independence Day
We love any excuse to throw a party, and gathering family and friends to celebrate our independence is at the top of our list! So why not light up the grill, buy some sparklers and have a blowout BBQ? And use our fabulous invitations to spread the word, of course. We created designs for Custom Image StationeryStamps, which are included in all of the projects.

Our PrintingPress design features a layered design. We added a band of blue stars and stripes to the top of a 3.5 x 5 inch card. We added the invitation text in dark blue using the Meegles font from Fonts & Graphics 2 and then repeated the band at the bottom of the card. Since the bands run all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Next we used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the card to a Midnight 4 x 5.5 inch custom cut card. Send in a Midnight A2 envelope with starry band (blue) Personalized StationeryStamps.

For a starry night, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. The card is topped by a blue dotted line scattered with stars wandering across the card. We added the invitation text in the same blue using the Noodles font from Fonts & Graphics 3. Next we added an inverted version of the star shower at the bottom of the card. Since the band runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We used a floating text box to add the hosts’ name and phone number in off-white atop the blue band. For tips on creating white text using PrintingPress Platinum, review the Experts Only section in the April 2004 issue. Send in a Midnight A7 envelope lined in Deep Red and add dotty stars (blue) Personalized StationeryStamps.

For grand old invitation, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design featuring our Mountaincow Pochette. We started by filling the background of the invitation with a custom pattern of blue and white stripes. Next we used a floating text box to add the invitation text using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We turned off the Make White Transparent setting to make the white background of the text box opaque. We added a red, white and blue custom border with the shape set to Oval. We added two waving flags above the text and printed on a White 5 x 5 inch custom cut card. Since the striped background bleeds to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless feature and set the paper size to 5 x 7 inches to work with our 5 x 5 card. We used a double-stick tape gun to glue the invitation to a Deep Red 5.5 x 5.5 inch custom cut card, then mounted the set on a Metallic Navy Square Pochette. Send in a Deep Red Square envelope with patriotic Personalized StationeryStamps.

Take it to the Extreme

Shower the bride
Whether you’re the maid of honor in charge of every aspect of the bridal shower or a bridesmaid asked to help, our bridal shower invitations are sure to please the bride and make you look good! We started by filling the background of our invitation in pale pink. Next we added the invitation text in brown using the Benjamin Caps font, and added the bride’s name in deep pink using the Alyssa Afternoon font, both from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added a floating image of white cherry blossoms with pink centers on the right side of the card. Finally, we used PrintingPress Extreme 4.0’s custom border feature to add a strip at the bottom of the card. We set the border shape to Line (Bottom) and set both the outline and inner pen to 14 pt with the Type set to Bumps. We set the outline and inner pen to brown, and added a 0.08 inch fill using the same pale pink we used to fill the background. Since the design runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Pair with a Chocolate A7 envelope lined in Deep Pink and add cherry blossom (white on pink - portrait) StationeryStamps.

Baby talk
When you’re getting ready for baby, especially your first, there are so many things to get ready that it can definitely seem overwhelming. You can purchase most of the supplies before the birth, but there’s just no way to print birth announcements before the baby arrives. Our adorable designs will help you get your announcements in the mail before the stork has left your zip code. All of the designs feature coordinating thank you notes to make it easy for you make sure everyone knows how much you appreciate their gift.

Our PrintingPress design features a cute baby monkey in the top right corner of a White 4-bar card. The monkey wears a diaper fastened with a green safety pin. We added the baby’s name aligned to the left side of the card in the same green using the Benjamin font from Fonts & Graphics 2. We added the rest of the text in the brown to coordinate with the monkey. For the thank you note, we put the monkey in the top left corner of a White 4-bar folded note. We added the baby’s name in green in the center of the card, and then a banana in the bottom right corner of the card. Both the announcement and the thank you note can be sent in Avocado 4-bar envelopes lined in Chocolate. We included a design to help you personalize your envelopes with baby monkey (green) Personalized StationeryStamps, or you can add our new stock image baby monkey StationeryStamps. The project also includes a monkey with a pink pin to coordinate with our Pink Lemonade envelopes and another monkey with a blue pin for use with our Powder Blue envelopes.

A happy little turtle sits on the bottom of our PrintingPress Platinum design. We set him on a White A2 card with a background image of green polka dots. We added the text in blue using the Brina Strong font from Fonts & Graphics 3. We repeated the same design on the front of the White A2 folded note card. Both cards are paired with Dusty Blue A2 envelopes lined in Avocado. Add turtle Pesronalized StationeryStamps or our new turtle StationeryStamps to complete the cuteness.

To showcase your new baby’s gorgeous face, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design. We started with a White 4-bar card and added a blue custom border with the border shape set to Line (Top), the line type set to Dotted (adjacent to fill) and the spacing set to 11. We added the photo as a floating image and cropped the photo to be square. Next we added a custom border with the border shape set to Oval to make the photo a circle. We then placed the photo atop the dotted line. We added the baby’s name in blue using the Ryan font and then added the rest of the details in black using the Times New Roman font. We used a shape object to add another dotted line at the bottom of the card. Next we created a floating text box and set the background color to blue and added a custom border with the shape set to Oval. We added the baby’s initial in white using the Ryan font and placed the text box on the bottom dotted line, which is closer to the edge of the card than the top line. We used a similar design on the White 4-bar folded note card. Both cards are paired with Powder Blue 4-bar envelopes. We included designs for Custom Image StationeryStamps to put your baby’s photo outside the envelope as well. You could also use our dotty photo (blue) Personalized StationeryStamps and let us do the work to turn the photo into a circle for you. We included green and pink versions of the design as well.

Special Occasion in a Snap

Sweet 16
Turning 16 is an exciting time in a girl’s life, and a big party is par for the course. If you’re planning a fete for your daughter, our fabulous invitations will help you set the stage for the big event. All the projects include designs for Custom Image StationeryStamps, or you can order our new Personalized StationeryStamps in any of the styles.

For a truly sweet invitation, try our PrintingPress design. We started with a White 4.5 x 4.5 inch custom cut card. We added the invitation text in green using the Benjamin Caps font and added the guest of honor’s name in pink using the Alyssa font, both from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the card to an Avocado 4.75 x 4.75 inch custom cut card, then mounted the pair onto a Pink Lemonade Square card. We lined the White Square envelope in Pink Lemonade for a touch of color. We used the same fonts and color scheme for the White 4-bar response card set. Add flourish message (pink) Personalized StationeryStamps to complete the look.

If you’re planning a wild party, then our PrintingPress Platinum design is just right for you. We added a bold green and magenta zebra border to a White A7 card. We added the party info in black using the Girls Are Weird font from our Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. We wrote the world “WILD” in magenta to make it really pop. We used the same design for the White 4-bar response card, and paired both invitations with Clover envelopes lined in Magenta. Add zebra border (magenta & green) Personalized StationeryStamps for a wild envelope.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design featuring a Mountaincow Pocket Folder is perfect for any elegant soiree. We added a custom border to add a green dotted line to the top of a White 4-bar card. Next we added the invitation text in the same green using the Benjamin Caps font and added the party girl’s name in pink using the Alyssa font, both from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added a green botanical flourish in the bottom right corner of the card. Since the design bleeds all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless feature to print the card. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the invitation to a Celery 3.875 x 5.25 custom cut card and mounted the pair to a Metallic Magenta A2 Pocket Folder (pointed flap). We used similar designs for the White 4-bar response card and the White 3.875 x 5.25 custom cut directions card. We also created a seal using PrintingPress Extreme 4.0’s label stationery type, printing onto a White 8.5 x 11 inch full sheet and then trimming them down to 3.5 x 2 inches. We trimmed a Celery full sheet to 3.75 x 2.25 inch cards and mounted the pair to the flap of the Pocket Folder. We used a Pink Lemonade A2 envelope for the invitation and a Pink Lemonade 4-bar envelope for the response card and lined both in Metallic Magenta. Add botanical flourish (pink & green) Personalized StationeryStamps for an elegant presentation.

Use your image-ination
If you see an image that you like in a newsletter project, you can easily download the project and then import it into PrintingPress and all the images, borders, backgrounds and patterns used in the project are imported as well. You can modify the project to use it for your event, or you can copy elements of the project for use on different stationery. For regular images, you can click on the image and choose Copy in the Edit menu and then paste it onto any stationery that you like.

It’s a different story for borders and backgrounds. If you have PrintingPress Extreme, you can use the Copy Border button in the Design toolbar to copy a border from any stationery, image, monogram, text box or shape and then use the Paste Border button to apply the border anywhere that you like.

Copy / Paste Border

But if you have PrintingPress Platinum, or if you want to copy a background instead of a border, you can’t use Copy and Paste. When you import a project, the border and background images used in the project are copied onto your hard disk. You can use the image anywhere else in your project by clicking on the Browse button in the Insert Image window or the Add Stationery Background window, viewing by thumbnails, and browsing to the locations listed below:
