Tip of the Month

So long summer
It feels like the summer has just begun, but before you know it the kids will be lining up for classes to begin once again. Why not celebrate the end of the season with a Labor Day party? Whether you invite a few friends for an intimate affair, or the whole block for a casual shindig, our invitations will help you get the party started.

Three pairs of flip flops sit atop our PrintingPress design. We added a pair of pink and white polka dotted- flip flops, a pair of leopard flip flops, and a pair of green and white striped flip flops to the top of a White 4.5x6.5 custom cut card. We added the invitation text beneath the shoes in pink using the Meegles font from Fonts & Graphics 3. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the card to a Deep Pink A7 card. Pair with a Clover A7 envelope lined in Deep Pink and add one of our new flip flops StationeryStamps.

If you prefer something bold and modern, check out our PrintingPress Platinum invitation. We added a collection of circles in twilight and brown to the top of a White A7 card. We personalized the design by adding the hosts’ initials in the circles at the top using floating text boxes. We added the invitation details using the Times New Roman font in brown and then used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print the invitation. Send in Chocolate A7 envelopes lined in Twilight and add modern dots (twilight & brown) Personalized StationeryStamps.

If you’re throwing a cocktail soiree, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design. We filled the background of the invitation with a new spots pattern and we scaled the pattern to create really big spots. For tips on scaling a pattern, see this month’s Extreme Tip. Next we set the custom background’s margins to zero so that the dots run all the way to the edge of the card. We added pink and green cocktails to the top of the invitation and then added the invitation text in black using the Benjamin font from Fonts & Graphics 2. Since the dots bleed off of the edge of the page, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Paired with a Clover A7 envelope lined in Pink Lemonade, they’re fun and festive.

To the Extreme

Initial reaction
Sometimes you need to send just a quick note, and our little note cards are just perfect. We used PrintingPress Extreme 4.0’s custom pattern creator to fill the front of a White 4-bar card with black & white polka dots. Next we added a floating text box and added the initial “s” in green using the Girls are Weird font from our Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD to the center of the text box. We turned off the Make White Transparent setting so that the text box’s background will remain opaque. We added a 0.125 inch custom border filled in the same green, and set the custom border’s Fill type to Shape. We set the Shape to Oval andset the Space to 20 to spread out the black dots. We moved the text box behind the main text area of the card, and then typed the full name “sabrina peterson” directly into the main text area. We set both the horizontal and vertical text alignment to Center to align the name atop the initial. Since the polka dots run all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Pair with a Clover 4-bar envelope lined in Deep Pink, and send using our new dotty initial (black, white & green) Personalized StationeryStamps. Since this project uses 4-bar envelopes, we used the Small size, now available in White sheets.

Last-Minute Lovely

What’s in a name?
Sometimes you find yourself with a need for an instant gift, and personalized stationery is always a safe bet. If you know your recipient’s favorite colors and their sense of style, then it’s pretty easy to create a unique gift that was personally and lovingly made just for them. For an extra special touch, include a sheet of Personalized StationeryStamps.

For someone with traditional taste, try our PrintingPress design. We started with a classic Ivory A7 card and added the name in avocado using the Noodles font from Fonts & Graphics 3. We added a looped dotted line in avocado beneath the name. We repeated the same design on the front of an Ivory A2 folded note card. Both cards are paired with Ivory envelopes lined in Avocado. To complete the look, add a sheet of our loopy (avocado) Personalized StationeryStamps.

If your friend is a total sweetheart, then our PrintingPress Platinum design, featuring our Powder Puff stationery, is right for you. We added a chocolate brown heart to the top right corner of a Pink Lemonade A2 card. Then we used a floating text box to add the name above the heart using the Arial font. We set the text color to off white so that it will remain white when the background of the text box is transparent. For tips on creating white text using PrintingPress Platinum, review the Experts Only section in the April 2004 issue. We added the same design to the front of a Pink Lemonade A2 folded note card. Both cards are paired with Pink Lemonade A2 envelopes lined in Chocolate. For a sweet touch, include a sheet of sweetheart (pink & brown) Personalized StationeryStamps. If it’s too sugary sweet for you, use Summer Sky or Guacamole stationery instead.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design is for the girl who’s a mix of classic and modern. We started with our Raspberry Mint stationery with its chic, bright colors. We added the name in magenta using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings in a floating text box to the top of the Celery A7 card. We added a custom border with lines and dots to the text box, setting the border’s shape to Oval. For tips on creating dotted line borders, review the Extreme Tip from the September 2006 issue. We added the same design to the front of the Celery A2 note card and paired both with Magenta envelopes. Slip in a sheet of our new dotty oval Personalized StationeryStamps.

Special Occasion in a Snap

Engaging parties
We hear wedding bells in our sleep here at Mountaincow, and we’re always dreaming up new designs for all sorts of wedding stationery. This month we’ve got beautiful, elegant new designs for engagement parties. So if you know someone who just made plans to tie the knot, we’ve got the invitations to help you to toast their betrothal in style.

Our PrintingPress design is perfect for an elegant affair. We added navy flourishes to the top of an Ecru 4 x 5.25 inch custom cut card. We added the invitation details in the Benjamin Caps font, and the couple’s names in the Alyssa Afternoon font, both from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Next we used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the invitation to a Midnight A2 card. Send in a Midnight A2 envelope lined in Ecru, and add our new elegant (navy) Personalized StationeryStamps using the Small size in Ecru sheets.

Our PrintingPress Platinum design will work for any affair. We started by adding a dotty avocado border to a White A7 card. We added the invitation text in brown using the Benjamin Caps font and added the couple’s names in avocado using the Alyssa Afternoon font, both from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Since the border runs to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Chocolate A7 envelope in Avocado and added antique dots (willow & brown) Personalized StationeryStamps.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design mixes modern and traditional with ease. We used the shape tool to add a strip of pattern to the top of a White A7 card. We filled the shape with a new floral paisley pattern (yellow and white) pattern. Next we set the shape’s Shape to Line (Bottom) and added a custom border to the shape. We aligned the shape to the top of the card and set the card’s top margin to 2.25 inches so that the text will not overlap the shape. We added the invitation text in black using the Times font with the SmallCaps advanced text style. We wrote the word “and” that joins the couple’s names in yellow using the Alyssa Afternoon font from  Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Since the shape runs along the top edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We added a single yellow blossom beneath the return address on the White A7 envelope and lined the envelope in Yellow for a splash of color. To complete the invitation, we added our new floral paisley (yellow) Personalized StationeryStamps.

Extreme Tip

Pattern proportion
PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 lets you fill any text, border, background or shape with a pattern, and even lets you create a custom pattern. To give you even more control, PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 also lets you adjust the scale of the pattern. In this month’s Extreme Labor Day invitation, we filled the background of the card with a new polka dots (green, blue & pink) pattern. To choose your pattern, select Choose / Adjust pattern in the Color menu and the Choose pattern window will appear. Click on a folder to choose one of the built-in patterns or click on the Browse button to locate a pattern image file on your hard disk. When we first added the polka dots pattern, the dots were small enough to fit dozens of dots on the card.

We wanted a bolder design, so we dragged the Scale slider to the third notch from the right to increase the scale of the pattern. The preview on the right side of the window shows you how the pattern will look at its new size. In our example, we also rotated the pattern to put a few pink dots front and center.

Even if you’ve created a custom pattern using PrintingPress Extreme 4.0’s custom pattern creator, after you’ve applied the pattern you can select Choose / Adjust pattern in the Color menu and change the scale of your custom pattern.
