Summertime… and entertaining is easy. Maybe because it stays light out later, the grill makes everything taste better or maybe because PrintingPress can turn any summer evening party into a special occasion with some quick invitations. Moving? Now you have double the reason to reach out to friends. First send them your new address, then invite them over to see your new home. Throw a surprise party for the Leo in your life. Stars say they’ll love the attention.

Dining al fresco
Light the barbecue and set the picnic table. Everything about having friends over in the summer can be simple – the fresh food tastes great off the grill, no one thinks twice about paper plates and your biggest decision should be which flavor of ice cream to serve for dessert. So it only makes sense for your invitations be just as low-fuss but still gorgeous.

For our PrintingPress project, we used the new silhouettes from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings, adding alternating blue and green dragonflies at the top of the invitation. The text is in Alyssa Afternoon, also from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings, in blue. The menu uses the same line of dragonflies and font. We used A6 Rock Candy stationery to carry out the blue and green color combo.

Platinum users can block white text over a green and blue background. Since the invitation is for dinner on the beach, a white sand dollar tops the card and the menu and Alyssa Afternoon from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings is set to white to pop from the background. Pair the card with an A6 Dusty Blue envelope and your beach party is ready to go.

Get the blues
Mountaincow is excited to present
Blueberry Truffle stationery: breezy blue cards with Chocolate envelopes. Impress your friends with this trendy combination of cool and warm tones by creating a surprise birthday party invitation.

Using a mod-style background pattern, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature to have the background image of dotty circles print all the way to the edge of the card. Since our printer requires standard photo sizes for borderless printing, so we chose a 5 x 7 card. For more information on borderless printing, see the Tech Tip from our November 2004 issue. We used Beckles Wide for a modern compliment to the background design and wrapped it through the design.

Get a move on
Double your announcement pleasure with Mountaincow’s new A2 Two-Tone card set. Create a card that’s twice as nice by printing your announcement on one card and adhering it to a larger one to create a contrasting 3-D border.

PrintingPress users can use our design with a pink flamingo on the aptly named flamingo stationery and type a new address using Benjamin Shadow, a new font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Use double-stick tape to attach the light pink card on a darker pink card and match with the A2 envelope.

The Platinum project uses ivory cards with deep red accents. The red text in Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings matches the double line red border around the card. A second red border is created when the ivory card is mounted on the larger deep red card. A Deep Red A2 envelope ties it all together.

Open house
You’re all moved in to a new house but there’s something missing… your old friends! Why not extend an invitation to all your friends at once to show them your new
place to call home?

Mountaincow has yet another new color combination to present: Strawberry Truffle! PrintingPress users can print a row of houses on a light pink card, letting all but one be brown to match the A6 Chocolate envelope. One house will be pink to stand out from the rest and be the most inviting. The handwriting font Meegles from Fonts & Graphics 3 sets the tone for a casual affair.

Platinum users can use a modern background pattern of pink and orange rectangles for their housewarming party. A text box was centered on each rectangle and the Meegles font was made white so it would stand out from the bright orange and pink shapes. The text in the text boxes were set to justified so the left and right margins line up perfectly. The invitation is printed on a white card and paired with an A6 Blush envelope.

Color Match
You're creating an invitation using a fabulous graphic, and you want the color of your text to exactly match a color in the graphic. How do you get the exact color values? It is easy using a Paint program to open the graphic and check the RGB value. Follow the simple steps below and you'll be completely color coordinated:

    1. Open Paint (which comes with Windows) by clicking the Windows Start button and choosing Programs, Accessories, Paint.
    2. Copy the graphic from your invitation and paste it into Paint.
    3. Use the dropper tool in Paint to sample the color you want to match your text.
    4. Choose Edit Colors in the Colors menu in Paint. You will see the Edit Colors window.
    5. Click the Define Custom Colors button to show the advanced color controls and to see the RGB value of the color you sampled. Jot down the values for later.
    6. Return to your invitation, select your text, click on the color palette in the toolbar and choose More Colors in the Color menu.
    7. Enter the RGB values and click the OK button
