Our PrintingPress 6.0 design is perfect for the young man in your life – whether he is giving or receiving the Valentine. We started by adding a silhouette of a snowboarder to the upper right corner of a Metallic Candy Apple 4-bar card. We turned on the Make white transparent setting on the image and added the words “I FLIP for you” aligned to the left margin using the Boys on Mopeds font from the Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. Since we used metallic card stock, we printed the card using a laser printer. We used a corner punch to round the edges of the Valentine. We used the Inner Envelope stationery type to print the recipients’ names on the front of the envelopes. For a touch of sophistication, we lined the Deep Red envelopes in Metallic White.

If you crave a cosmopolitan Valentine, check out our PrintingPress Platinum 6.0 design, which we modeled after a traditional air mail letter. We started by adding a pink and white striped border image to a White 4-bar card. We created the card as a two-sided place card in PrintingPress Platinum so that we can print the recipient’s name directly onto the Valentine using the names in the project’s Guest List. We wrote the name on the front of the card in red using the Courier New font that is included with Windows. We added a postage stamp image, a postage cancellation image, and a faux “love mail” stamp image as floating images on the front of the Valentine. We added the same border on the back of the Valentine and set the text color of the Table text box to white so that it would not print. Next, we added a silhouette of Cupid as a floating image and used a floating text box to add a Valentine greeting in pink and red using the Courier New font. Since the “love mail” border runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature.

For a fun, modern Valentine, try our PrintingPress Extreme 6.0 design. We started by using the Repeated Text feature to create a background pattern filled with “xoxo” hugs & kisses using the Arial font in red, purple, pink & green. We created custom patterns to fill each letter in order to create some depth to the background design. Next, we added a giant hug & kiss “XO” in purple using the Arial font at 220 pt. We used a floating text box to add a greeting inside the “O”, and floated the text box behind the main text area of the card so that it is perfectly framed by the “O.” We also disabled the text box’s Make white transparent setting so that it blocks out the background and the message really pops. For a final touch, we added a tiny green heart using PrintingPress Extreme 6.0’s Shape feature. Since the “xoxo” background runs to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless feature to print our Valentines. We used the Inner Envelope feature to print the recipients’’ names onto the Magenta envelopes lined in Celery.

Shower the bride
When you’re a bridesmaid, your most important job is to support the bride. You can have a wide range of specific responsibilities depending on what your bride has asked you to do. Sharon Naylor’s new book, Bridesmaid on a Budget, helps you make sure you do your job with style and without breaking the bank. In addition, Sharon has written a new article with 2011’s top wedding reception trends to help you assist your bride with cutting edge advice.

One job you can be sure to expect is to throw a bridal shower. Typically the maid of honor will be in charge of this event, but she is counting on the other bridesmaids to help plan a fabulous celebration. Our new bridal shower invitations are an easy contribution for a bridesmaid in the know. For added finesse, we included coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps for each design.
Our PrintingPress 6.0 design is sweet and simple. We started by adding an image of a pink and green tiered cake as a floating image on the left side of a White A7 card. We adjusted the card’s margins to center the invitation text to the right of the cake. We added the shower details in grey and pink using the Palatino Linotype font that is included with Windows. Since the cake runs off the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Avocado envelopes in
Pink Lemonade and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 6.0 design is the perfect mix of contemporary elegance. We started by using a Shape object to add a blue stripe on the left side of a White A7 card. We added a custom border to the shape using alternating brown and white dotted circles. For tips on using the Alternate Outline border feature, see this month’s Extreme Tip. Since the shape runs to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Next, we added the invitation text in brown and blue using the Palatino Linotype font. We created coordinating Custom Envelope Liners and Custom Image StationeryStamps for the Chocolate envelopes.

Alternating line colors
PrintingPress Extreme 6.0’s new Alternate Line Color feature lets you specify a second color for a custom border outline or inner pen. To enable the Alternate Line Color feature, click on the Use Alternate Outline Color button on the Border palette in the Design palette group. To add an alternate line color for the inner pen, click on the Use Alternate Inner Pen Color button. The Outline Color button will divide to add an Alternate Outline Color button.

For this month’s Extreme Bridal Shower we started with a shape with a Dotted Circle outline in brown.

Next, we enabled the Use Alternate Outline Color feature and set the alternate color to White so that it blends into the background of the card.

The Use Alternate Outline Color feature is available for all but one of the 31 line types (there is no alternate for the simple Line type), but it behaves differently depending on the line type. For example, a non-solid line type such as Dots or Dotted Circles would use the alternate color for every other unit of the line as in this month’s Extreme Bridal Shower. For non-segmented line types such as Wave or Ric Rac, the alternate color is used to fill the space between the border Fill and the line itself.
