Tip of the Month

An egg-cellent idea
It’s true; we love any excuse to throw a party. And what could be more fun than inviting all the small children in your life over to hunt for Easter eggs? For a hassle-free hunt with no risk of food laying hidden until next year, we recommend plastic Easter eggs. All of our invitations feature rabbits in pastel hues to match your Easter Eggs.

Our PrintingPress design features a mommy and baby bunny sitting atop a White 4-bar card. The green and yellow bunnies are joined by green and yellow stripes at the bottom of the card, with the invitation text in the middle in black using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Since the stripes bleed to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Clover envelopes in Yellow to complete the look.

If you love a cotton-tail, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. We added a background image with a giant pink rabbit with a fluffy white tail to a White 4.125 x 5.875 inch custom cut card. We used floating text boxes to add the invitation text above the rabbit’s body in off-white using the Ryan font from Fonts & Graphics 3. For tips on using off-white text with PrintingPress Platinum, see the April 2004 issue. We used another floating text box to add the RSVP right in the middle of the rabbit’s tail in purple. We used a double-stick tape gun to mount the invitation to a Lavender Scalloped A6 card. Send in a Lavender envelope lined in Pink Lemonade.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design is almost too cute for words. We filled the background of a White 4-bar card with a new dotty diamond pattern. Next we added a floating text box with the Make White Transparent setting disabled so that the background of the text box would remain white. We added the invitation text in black using the Girls are Weird font from the Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. Next we added a blue and green custom border to the text box and set the Border Shape to Oval. We used a second floating text box to add the RSVP information wit the text shape set to Bend Up. Finally, we added a blue bunny above the text. Since the background pattern runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We paired the invitation with an Avocado envelope lined in Powder Blue.

Take it to the Extreme

Hoppy Easter!
Sometimes the Easter Bunny brings stuffed animals or other gifts that can be too large to fit into an Easter Basket. PrintingPress Extreme 5.0’s new gift wrap stationery type combined with the new repeated text feature make it easy to create personalized gift wrap that the Easter Bunny would be proud to use. We used an adorable new pattern of pastel jelly beans on a field of yellow to fill the background of the gift wrap. Then we added repeated text with the message “Happy Easter! Love Nana” using the Girls are Weird font from the Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD running in a wave between the rows of jelly beans. For tips on creating repeated text, see the Extreme Tip from the November 2008 issue.

Last-Minute Lovely

Movin’ out
Moving can be so much work! All the packing and unpacking is just exhausting. Let Mountaincow help you with one task by using our new moving announcement designs. The perfect combination of sophisticated and playful, you’re sure to find a design for you.

Our PrintingPress design features a beautiful antique key at the top of a Metallic Vanilla A2 card. We added the words “Our New Address” in blue beneath the key using the Benjamin Shadow font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Next we added the new contact information using the Benjamin Caps font. Paired with a Metallic Twilight envelope lined in Metallic Vintage, it’s sure to be noticed. Since we used metallic stationery, we printed the cards and envelopes using our color laser printer. If you have an ink jet printer, you can use Matte Ecru and Twilight stationery instead.

We added an antique door knocker to our PrintingPress Platinum moving announcement. We placed the hardware on the left side of a Metallic Vanilla 5.25 x 4 inch custom cut card and then used a floating text box to add the family name as if it were engraved onto the door knocker. Then we typed “Our New Address” using the Alyssa font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings directly into the main text area of the card. We added the new address below using the Benjamin Caps font. We used a double-stick tape gun to mount the announcement to a Metallic Black A2 card. We lined the Metallic Vanilla envelope in Metallic Black for an elegant presentation. Since we used metallic stationery, we printed everything using our color laser printer. If you have an ink jet printer, you can use Matte Ecru and Black stationery instead.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design features an old fashioned metal workshop lamp that illuminates the new address. We added the lamp as a floating image behind the main text area of the card, and then added a custom background filled in light blue. Since we used a custom background to add the field of blue, you can change it to use any color that you like. We added all the text in the same grey as the lamp using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings with expanded character spacing. We used the Indent Text Left field on the Paragraph palette in the Text palette group to move the address information to the right while keeping the text center aligned. For tips on nudging your text using the controls in the Paragraph palette, see this month’s Extreme Tip. Since the design bleeds all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Send in Pewter envelopes lined in Powder Blue.

Special Occasion in a Snap

A toast to the happy couple
There are many celebrations that go along with getting married, and an engagement party is a great way to get the party started! Whether it’s just the families getting together to toast the betrothed couple or a huge fete that rivals the wedding, our engagement party invitations will help you set the right tone for the event.

A bough of red and orange poppies tops our PrintingPress design. We aligned the flowers to the upper left corner of the White A7 card and then added the invitation text using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings on the right side of the card. We added the future bride and groom’s names in red using the Noodles font from Fonts & Graphics 3 to make them really pop. Since the flowers run off the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Send in Deep Red envelopes lined in Mandarin Orange.

For a bold statement, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. We added a simple solid green background image to a White A7 card and then added the invitation text in white using the Times New Roman font. To make the betrothed couple’s names stand out, we typed them using all capital letters. We used floating text boxes to add large curly brackets around the names. Since the floating text boxes cannot show white text in PrintingPress Platinum, we used off white text. For tips on using off-white text with PrintingPress Platinum, see the April 2004 issue. Here’s a tip for changing the text in the main text area of the card:  since PrintingPress Platinum does not show white text, change the text to black, edit the text, then change it back to white once you’ve finished. Since the green background bleeds to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We printed the address on the White envelopes in the same green we used on the invitation.

For a totally groovy invitation, check out our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design. We added a custom border to the top of a White A7 card and set the border shape to Line (Top). We filled the border with a new doodles pattern and added a 10 point inner pen using a dark green from the pattern. We added the invitation text in the same green using the Beckles Wide font in all lowercase letters. We added the future bride and groom’s names in a dark blue that matches the pattern. Since the border bleeds to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Send in Avocado envelopes lined in Midnight.

Extreme Tip

Shove on over
Setting your stationery’s margins is a great way to position your text on your card, but sometimes you may want to finely adjust a subset of your text. PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 makes it really easy to nudge your text in the main text area of your card using the controls in the Paragraph palette in the Text palette group. In our example from this month’s Extreme moving announcement, we wanted our text to be center aligned, but then we wanted to move the whole block of text to the right to center it within the beam of light from the lamp. A screen shot of the center-aligned text we started with is shown below.

Fully Centered Text

To move the text to the right, just select the text that you want to move and then click in the Indent Text Left field in the Paragraph palette and use your mouse wheel to increase the value. The text will update as you move your mouse wheel, so you can finely adjust the placement.

Paragraph Palette

To nudge the text to the left, increase the value in the Indent Text Right field. Keep in mind that you can use negative values in all of these fields as well. A screen shot of our adjusted text is shown below.

Nudged Text

To add spacing before the selected line of text (and for each line of text within the selection), increase the value in the Space Before Paragraph field. To add spacing after the selected line of text (and for each line of text within the selection), increase the value in the Space After Paragraph field.
