Tip of the Month

Hop to it!
What better way is there to celebrate the arrival of Spring than by hunting for Easter eggs? Throw a party for all the little ones in your family, on your block, or even the whole neighborhood! Whatever size party you plan, our invitations will help you get those little bunnies hopping.

Our PrintingPress design features a simple carrot on an Ivory A2 card. We added the party details in green and orange using the Arial font. We aligned the carrot and most of the text to the left side of the card, and aligned the RSVP to the right side of the card. We lined the Ivory envelope in Mandarin Orange for an extra pop. Send with the coordinating carrot StationeryStamps on Ivory sheets.

If you think of pastels when you think of Easter, then our Platinum design will be just right for you. We added a pastel patchwork border to a White 4-bar card. We added the invitation details in purple using the Brina Strong font from Fonts & Graphics 3. We resized the border so that it bleeds all the way to the edge of the card and used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print the card. Next we used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the invitation to a Lavender Scalloped A2 card. We lined the Clover envelope in Pink Lemonade to complete the sweetness. To order the stationery for this project, you will need A2 Envelopes and Scalloped Flat Cards in Confetti, 4-Bar Cards Only in White and 4-Bar Envelope Liners in Pink Lemonade.

For a bold, vintage invitation, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design. We added an image of a rooster to the top of a White custom cut 4.5 x 6.5 inch card. We then surrounded the rooster with the question “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” using a floating text box with the Text Shape set to Circle. We added a custom border to the text box, and set the border’s shape to Oval. We gave the border a 4 point red Outline with the line Type set to Dotted (adjacent to fill) and the Space set to 4. We set the invitation top margin to 3.25 inches to move the main text area below the rooster and his quandary, and added the party details using the Times New Roman font. We used a double-stick tape gun to mount the invitation onto a Black A7 card. Slip the invitation into a Deep Red A7 envelope and it’s sure to get noticed. For an extra wow, add our new rooster StationeryStamps.

Take it to the Extreme

Fit for a prince
At Mountaincow, we believe that there is always room for more cake, beach vacations, and personalized stationery! PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 gives you the tools to let your creative juices flow.

Our simple, classic design features an old-fashioned bicycle at the bottom of our new printer-compatible Natural Cotton A7 card, found in our Textured stationery section. The cotton card is thicker than our Matte stationery, but still easily feeds into your desktop printer. It also has a beautiful, classically textured finish. We added the name at the top of the card using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added a stationery border with the Shape set to Line (Top) and set the Top margin to 0.625 inches to leave room for the name above the border. We set the Left margin to zero so that the border runs all the way to the edge of the card. The border consists of a single pixel outline and inner pen separated by a 0.02 inch white fill. Paired with a Slate A7 envelope lined in Avocado, it’s quite a classy set. To complete the look, add bicycle StationeryStamps. We repeated the same design on Natural Cotton 4-Bar Scored Cards. Since the design bleeds to the edge of both the flat and folded cards, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print the cards.

Last-Minute Lovely

Mark a milestone with a meal
When crossing into a new decade, birthdays are a big deal and deserve to be celebrated with gusto. If you have a friend approaching a milestone birthday, throw them a party to celebrate, (or to ease the pain). Our projects bring the joy of springtime in a range of casual to sophisticated designs. If you’re planning a formal sit-down dinner, each project includes place cards to allow you to orchestrate the seating arrangements. As always, remember that these designs can easily be modified with our software to be used for rehearsal dinners, showers or virtually any kind of event.

Our PrintingPress design has a row of spring flowers scattered across the bottom of the white A7 card. In order to have the image go all the way to the edge of the card, we set the Left, Right and Bottom margins to zero. We left the Top margin at 0.5 inches and added the invitation text in black using the Noodles font from Fonts & Graphics 3. To make the birthday girl’s name stand out, we wrote it in green using the Noodles Strong font from Fonts & Graphics 3. Send in an Avocado A7 envelope lined in Pink Lemonade, and post it with spring flowers (pink & green) StationeryStamps. The coordinating place cards print the guests’ names in black using the Noodles font, and can be printed on both Pink Lemonade and Avocado place cards.

It’s not even spring yet and you’re tired of pastels already? Then check out our PrintingPress Platinum design. We added bundles of leaves in red and orange to the top left of the White custom cut 4.5 x 6.5 inch card. We added the party details in black using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings and added another sprig of leaves to the bottom right of the card. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the card to a Mandarin Orange A7 card. Slip in a Deep Red envelope lined in Mandarin Orange and you’re set. For an extra splash of color, add our foliage (red and orange) StationeryStamps. The White place cards feature the same leaves and print the guests’ names in black using the Alyssa Afternoon font. To order the stationery for the invitation, order A7 Envelopes and Flat Cards in Fall Foliage and White custom cut 4.5 x 6.5 inch cards.

For a modern, sophisticated look, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design. We added a custom border to a White A7 card and set the border’s shape to Line (Left). We set the border’s width to 1.5 inches and filled it with a new pattern featuring leaves and flowers on a field of green. We added the text in black using the Benjamin font from Fonts & Graphics 2 and the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added the same border to the left side of the White place card. Even though we used our standard folded place card, we told PrintingPress Extreme that the place card did not have any folds in order to use the Feed stationery bottom-first setting in the Print window for better results. For tips on aligning the guest name to the vertical center of the place card even though it is not a folded card, see this month’s Extreme Tip. Since both designs bleed all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Slip the invitation into an Avocado A7 envelope and send.

Special Occasion in a Snap

All grown up
A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a ceremony to mark when a Jewish boy or girl becomes an adult. It is a very special occasion for which the Bar or Bat Mitzvah child has worked and studied for a year or more. Families often throw extravagant parties to mark the occasion, and our fabulous invitations featuring our new Pocket Folders in Mountaincow colors will help you and your young adult plan for their big day.

Our PrintingPress design pairs bold colors with a simple design featuring our Complete Pocket Folder Invitation set in the A2 Portrait (pointed flap) size. We added modern circle designs from our fried eggs (pink and red) envelope liners to the top left and bottom right of the Ecru invitation and added the text in black using the Arial font. We added the Bat Mitzvah girl’s name in bold red text to make it stand out. We used a double-stick tape gun to mount the invitation to the Pink Lemonade backing card and then adhered the pair to the Deep Red Pocket Folder. We added a different circle design to the top of the Ecru enclosure card for the directions, and to the Ecru response card. We paired the response card with a Pink Lemonade 4-bar envelope and lined the Ecru A2 envelope with fried eggs (pink and red) envelope liners. The project includes a card sized for Custom Image StationeryStamps so that you can add your young woman’s name and date to the outside of the envelope. Make sure to order the custom postage printed on our exclusive Ivory sheets to coordinate with the Ecru invitation and envelope.

For the young man in your life, try our PrintingPress Platinum invitation. We used an Ecru custom cut 5.5 x 5.5 inch card for the invitation. We added a background image of solid gray, leaving a border of ecru around the edges and added the invitation text using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings in a darker gray. We added the Bar Mitzvah’s name in white using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings so that it would block out the gray background and allow the Ecru card to show through. We mounted the invitation onto a Metallic Slate Square (rounded point flap) Pocket Folder. We used an Ecru custom cut 5.5 x 5.5 inch card for the directions card, and an Ecru 4-bar card and envelope for the response set. We lined the Ecru Square envelope in Metallic Slate and added Custom Image StationeryStamps using Ivory sheets.

If your daughter is a girly girl with a taste for haute couture, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design. We added a custom border to the top of a White custom cut 4 x 6 inch card. We set the border’s shape to Line (Top) and filled it with a new pattern featuring black flowers and flourishes with a hint of pink. We added a black 3 point inner pen to the border and set the Fill width to 1.375 inches. We added the invitation details in black using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings and added the Bat Mitzvah’s name in pink using the Alyssa font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Since the border bleeds all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print the invitation. Next we used a double-stick tape gun to mount the invitation to a Metallic Pink Lemonade custom cut 4.625 x 6.625 inch custom cut card. Then we mounted the pair to the Black A7 Portrait (rounded point flap) Pocket Folder. We added a single black flower and flourish to the top of the White custom cut 4.75 x 6.75 directions card. We added the same border to the left of the White 4-bar response card and paired it with a Metallic Pink Lemonade envelope. We used PrintingPress Extreme 4.0’s label feature to create a sheet of 2 x 2 inch seals, which we printed on a full sheet of White card stock and then trimmed down to size. We trimmed another full sheet of Metallic Pink Lemonade card stock to 2.25 x 2.25 inch squares and mounted the pair to the point of the Pocket Folder. Send in a Metallic Pink Lemonade envelope and add Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Extreme Tip

Center stage
We have come up with many tricks while using the borderless printing feature, such as tricking the printer into thinking our 3.5 x 4 inch place cards are actually 3.5 x 5 inches (a standard photo size supported by many printers for borderless printing). We have found that the place cards print better when they are fed bottom-first, but PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 does not support this printing feature for folded cards. So we’ve come up with ways to make a non-folded place card work just like a folded one.

Once you’ve created your non-folded 3.5 x 4 inch place card, go ahead and add your design elements. In this case, we’ve added a custom stationery border with the shape set to Line (Left). We set the Guest Name text box horizontal alignment to Left and changed it to use a margin rather than center horizontally on the card.

place card

Now the tricky part:  center the guest name vertically on the front of the folded place card using a non-folded card in PrintingPress Extreme. Here’s the secret:  use a shape object to represent the front panel of the card. Choose Shape, Insert Shape in the Design menu. Leave the default color settings and click on the Next button. Leave the Height set at the default value of 2 inches, but change the Width to 0.5 inches and click on the Finish button. Now make sure that Relative to Stationery is selected in the Alignment toolbar, and then select the shape object and then click on the Align Bottom and Align Right buttons in the Alignment toolbar. The shape will move to the bottom right corner of the place card.

add shape

Now that you have your shape placed to represent the front of your place card, click on the shape to select it and click on the Lock button in the Alignment toolbar. This will lock the shape in its current position. Now you can turn off the Relative to Stationery setting in the Alignment toolbar and select both the shape and the Guest Name floating text box. Then click on the Align Vertical Center button in the Alignment toolbar to align the Guest Name text box to the vertical center of the shape. Unlock and delete the shape and you’re ready to print.
