Tip of the Month

Scholastic news
If you’re helping your child pack for school, make sure to tuck a stack of personalized stationery into their suitcase to help notes with news from school to reach you at home. To further ensure delivery, include a sheet of Custom Image StationeryStamps with coordinating designs.

For any coed, try our PrintingPress design. We used our Rock Candy stationery, which works for either gender, but you can easily customize to suit your student’s favorite color palette using our Mountaincow Stationery Swatch Book. We created a 5 x7 inch folded card in PrintingPress to allow us to use a large character for the first letter in the name, then a smaller point size for the rest of the name, centered vertically on the first initial. We wrote the name in green using the Ryan font from Fonts & Graphics 3. We printed the design on a flat Powder Blue A7 card. We repeated the design on the A2 folded note card as well and lined both envelopes in Powder Blue. We also included a personalized design for the matching Custom Image StationeryStamps.

For a youngster with traditional tastes, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. We added a polka dotted light blue and white border trimmed in brown to a White A7 card. We added a monogram to the top of the page using the Benjamin Shadow font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added the student’s full name beneath the monogram using the same font. We repeated the same design on the front of the White 4-bar folded note card. Since the border bleeds to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Paired with Chocolate envelopes lined in Twilight, they are sophisticated way for anyone to say hello. Add a sheet of dotty shadow (periwinkle & brown) Personalized StationeryStamps and you’re sure to see them arriving regularly in your own mailbox.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design is perfect for those full of school spirit. First we added a custom border to an A7 card and set the border’s shape to Line (Top). Next we filled the border with a custom pattern featuring stripes in the school’s colors. For tips on creating a striped custom pattern, review the Extreme Tip from the June 2007 issue. Next we added the school’s initials at the top of the card in white using the Ryan font. We added a 3 point outline to the letters to make them pop on the striped border. We set the text vertical alignment for the card to Vertically Justify Text and typed the student’s name at the bottom of the card in black using the Ryan font as well. We repeated a similar design on the front of the White 4-bar folded note card. We added a custom background to the card and filled it with the striped pattern. Next we added the schools’ initials and the student’s name using a floating text box with the Make White Transparent setting turned off so that the background of the text box remains white. We added a custom black and orange border to the text box to make it pop against the striped background. Since the stripes go all the way to the edge of both cards, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We used Orange Zest stationery and added matching Custom Image StationeryStamps to complete the look.

To the Extreme

Dinner is served
It’s true; we love any reason to create new invitation designs, but a dinner party is one of our favorites. It can be as casual or as formal as you like, and you can have fun setting your table using matching place cards. Our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design is fun and will suit any style gathering. We started by filling the background of the card with a custom pattern featuring twilight and white diamonds. Next we added a custom border to the card and set the border’s shape to Line (Bottom). We filled the border with a custom pattern of green and white polka dots and set the border’s width to 3 inches so that it fills nearly half of the card. Next we added a 40 pt brown inner pen to add a thick stripe of brown across the middle of the card. To add the invitation text to the card, we created a floating text box and turned off the Make White Transparent setting so that the background of the text box remains white. We typed the text in brown using the Benjamin font from Fonts & Graphics 2. We added a brown and white custom border to the text box and set the vertical alignment to Align Text Middle. We used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print the invitation on a White A7 card. The invitation’s Chocolate envelope is lined in Twilight for a sophisticated look. We repeated the invitation design on the front of the matching place card.

Last-Minute Lovely

Fashion forward
One of the most fun parts of changing seasons is updating your wardrobe with the latest fashions. For an extra bit of fun, we’ve created stationery designs with chic fashionistas in a variety of styles. Print yourself some of these cards for a fresh wardrobe in a flash. We have matching StationeryStamps for each design.

Our PrintingPress design is perfect for any preppy girl. We added our preppy fashionista, wearing a pink oxford and green pencil skirt, to the bottom of a White A7 card. We printed the name at the top of the card using the Noodles font from Fonts & Graphics 3 in orange to match the fashionista’s beaded necklace. We repeated the same design on the front of the White A2 folded note card and paired both cards with Mandarin Orange envelopes lined in Blush. Send using fashionista (preppy) StationeryStamps.

For a metro gal, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. We added a fashionista is wearing a leopard shift and floated it above the main area of text so that we could tuck the name in green using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings right at her feet. We printed the same design on a White A7 card and a White A2 folded note card and paired both with Clover envelopes lined in Chocolate.  Add fashionista (leopard) StationeryStamps bring the metro design outside the envelope.

If you’re feeling artsy, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design. Our fashionista wearing a floral wrap dress and black boots stands at the bottom of a White A7 card. We added an orange custom border to coordinate with the fashionista’s orange beaded necklace. We set the border’s shape to Line (Top) and the line type set to Dotted (adjacent to fill) with the spacing set to 4. We set the border’s Top margin to 0.875 inches to leave room for the name above the border. We added the name in orange using the Girls are Weird font from our Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. We set the border’s Left margin to 0 to draw the line all the way to the edge of the card. We repeated a similar design on the front of a White 4-bar folded note card, but changed the border’s shape to Line (Left). Since the dotted lines run all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature to print both cards. Each card is paired with a Mandarin Orange envelope lined in Aqua. Finish the look with fashionista (floral) StationeryStamps.

Special Occasion in a Snap

A beautiful union
Wedding bells are one of our favorite sounds here at Mountaincow! We’re always looking for an excuse to design new invitations, and nothing is more special than an invitation to nuptials. This month we’ve created beautiful designs that accommodate casual or formal affairs. And of course, we’ve designed coordinating StationeryStamps to complete the package.

Our PrintingPress design is the picture of elegance featuring our Mountaincow Complete Pocket Invitation Set in the A8 Landscape (pointed flap) size. We began the design with orange flowers at the top left and bottom right of the Ecru invitation card. We added the invitation text in black using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added the bride and groom’s names in orange using the Noodles font from Fonts & Graphics 3. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the invitation to the Mandarin Orange backing card and then mounted the set onto the Ecru Linen Pocket Folder. We added an orange paisley to the top left corner of the directions enclosure card and repeated one of the flowers at the top of the Ecru response card. We used a Mandarin Orange response envelope to bring a splash of color into the pocket. We lined the Ecru A8 envelope in Mandarin Orange and added Custom Image StationeryStamps using Ivory sheets.

For something a bit more fun, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. We added a field of paisleys and twirly flourishes as a background image to a White A7 card. We added the invitation text in brown and orange using the Arial font. We added all of the text in lower case for a modern feel. We added a similar background to the response card as well. Since both designs run to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We used Chocolate envelopes for the invitation and response card and lined both in Deep Pink. To finish the look, we added twirly paisley (brown, orange and pink) StationeryStamps.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design is a fabulous combination of modern and traditional. We started with a White A7 card and added a custom border filled with our new twirly (black & white) pattern. We added a 6 point black outline to the border and set the border’s width to 1 inch. We added a 8 point black inner pen with the line type set to Dotted (adjacent to fill). Next we added a custom background to the card and set the background’s margins to 1.125 inches so that it would not overlap with the custom border. We set the background type to Solid fill and set the color to green. We added the invitation text in black using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings and used a floating text box to add the couple’s new moniker in dark green using the Alyssa font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We floated the text box behind the main text area of the card so that the names would print on top of the initial. We added the same border to the response card but set the border shape to Line (Left). We also added a single green twirly flourish to the response card. Since the designs for both cards run to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We used White envelopes lined in Green and added twirly flourish (black, white & green) Personalized StationeryStamps.

Extreme Tip

Line it up
Almost any formal invitation will include a response card, which often includes a blank line for the recipient to write their name. We recommend that you use several underscore characters (“_”) to type the line, but some fonts do not connect the underscores so you may end up with a line that looks something like this:

M _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 makes it easy to connect the dots. Just double-click on the dotted line and click on the Decrease Horizontal Spacing button in the Text toolbar repeatedly until the underscores connect.

M ______________________

If you want to add a vertical line to your stationery, we recommend that you use a shape object. Choose Shape, Insert Shape in the Design menu to create a new shape. In the Shape details section, set the fill color to white and then set the Shape to Line (Left). Next you can use the controls in the Line details section to set the color and thickness of your line. Click on the Finish button to add the shape to your card, then resize the line using the drag handles.
