Tip of the Month

School’s out
Memorial Day signals the end of the school year and beginning of lazy summer days. Why not celebrate summer and remember our country’s fallen war heroes by hosting a BBQ?

If you’re in the mood to throw an elegant cookout, try our PrintingPress design, featuring our Mountaincow Complete Pochette Invitation Set in the Square size. We used Matte White for the invitation card and topped it with patriotic sprays of twilight and midnight stars in the corners of the card. We used the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings in midnight, and added another spray of stars above the RSVP. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the invitation card to the Metallic Twilight backing card, then mounted the pair onto the Metallic Navy Pochette. Paired with a Metallic Twilight Square envelope, it is patriotic as well as graceful.

Our PrintingPress Platinum design offers a simple template that will work beautifully for any style of gathering. We added a midnight double-line border to an Ecru A2 card. We added the invitation text in midnight blue using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We lined the Ecru envelope in Midnight to complete the look.

For a swank celebration, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design. We added a blue background to a White A7 card, and then used the shape tool to create a spiral in a slightly lighter blue. We added a custom border to the card using the Line (Right) border shape. We filled the border with a custom pattern using avocado spirals on a field of slightly lighter avocado. We added a brown inner pen to the border to divide the green and blue sections of the card. We added the invitation text in brown using the Girls Are Weird font from the Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. Because the design runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Paired with a Chocolate A7 envelope lined in Avocado, it’s fun and festive.

Take it to the Extreme

Dining al fresco
When the days start getting longer and it’s still light at suppertime, why not dine outdoors? The onset of spring is the perfect excuse to throw a dinner party on your patio! Our vibrant paisley invitations will help you gather your friends in style.

We used PrintingPress Extreme 4.0’s shape tool to create a stripe down the left side of the White A7 card. We filled the shape with a new orange and magenta paisley pattern, and added a decorative frame to the shape. For tips on adding an Image frame to shapes, see this month’s Extreme Tip. We made the shape taller than the card so that the frame is only visible on the left and right edges of the shape. We added the invitation text in orange using the Benjamin Drop Cap font from Fonts & Graphics 2. Because the design runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We couldn’t decide which envelope color looked better, so we’ve shown you both Magenta and Mandarin Orange envelopes with new paisley (pink & orange) StationeryStamps. If you want a formal table setting, we repeated the same stripe across the top of the menu card and along the side of the place cards.

Last-Minute Lovely

Anything for Mom
April showers bring May flowers, and flowers make a wonderful Mother’s Day gift! To make the gift more personal, why not create some beautiful personalized stationery for Mom? Our designs feature floral hues perfect for this spring holiday. And remember, a gift of stationery almost guarantees that you will receive a thank you note!

Our PrintingPress design is very versatile and can be used with any color scheme. We paired Lavender A7 cards with Avocado envelopes. At the top of the flat card, we wrote Mom’s name using the Benjamin Shadow font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We set the text size to 42 point to make it really pop. We added a decorative line that is also bold black and white beneath the name. We repeated the same design on the front of the Lavender A2 folded note card. Both cards are paired with Avocado envelopes lined in Lavender. Include a sheet of personalized Custom Image StationeryStamps with Mom’s name on them for an extra special touch.

If your Mom loves flowers, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. We added a pair of pink dahlia blooms to the bottom right corner of a White A7 card.  We added Mom’s name in the same pink using the Benjamin Narrow font from Fonts & Graphics 2. Since the flower stems run off the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We added the same design to the front of the White 4-bar folded note card. Pair both cards with Avocado envelopes lined in Deep Pink. For that extra touch, include a sheet of dahlia (pink & green) StationeryStamps.

Our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design is perfect for the ultra feminine Mom. We used the custom border feature to add a stripe along the bottom of the White A7 card. We set the border’s shape to Line (Bottom) and filled the border with a new pink garden pattern and added a pink outline and inner pen. We added the name just above the border in the same pink using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. To make the name extra bold, we added a pink outline. We added the same design to the front of the White 4-bar folded note card. Pair with Pink Lemonade envelopes and include a sheet of Custom Image StationeryStamps personalized with your Mom’s name. She’ll love it!

Special Occasion in a Snap

Hats off to the grad
Graduation Day marks the culmination of years of hard work and definitely warrants a big celebration! Throw a bash for yourself or for the young graduate in your family using our stylish invitations. All of our projects include Custom Image StationeryStamps to feature the graduate’s name and graduation date.

Our PrintingPress design is a mix of sophistication and whimsy. We added a brown stripe filled with pastel-hued ovals to the bottom of an Ecru A7 card. We added the invitation text in brown using the Benjamin Caps and Alyssa fonts from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We added the graduate’s name in the Alyssa font in blue to make it really stand out. Pair with a Chocolate envelope lined in Avocado and send using Custom Image StationeryStamps using Ivory sheets.

Our PrintingPress Platinum design features a background image with the silhouettes of two diploma-toting graduates on a field of blue. We printed the design on a White A7 card and added the invitation text in white using the Noodles Strong font from Fonts & Graphics 2, and we wrote the graduate’s name in the same brown as the silhouettes to make it pop. Slip the invitation into a Chocolate A7 envelope lined in Powder Blue and send using Custom Image StationeryStamps.

For sophisticated graduates, try our PrintingPress Extreme 4.0 design. We added a custom background with the margins set to zero and filled the background in blue. Next we added a floating text box with the Make White Transparent setting turned off so that the white background remains opaque. We added the invitation text in the text box using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. To make the name stand out, we wrote the first name in blue the Isabelle font from Fonts & Graphics 2 and added a blue outline. We wrote the last name in brown using the Benjamin Caps font and used the Move Line Up tool to nudge it right under the baseline of the first name. Next we added a custom border to the text box and set the border’s shape to Round rectangle. We added a 6pt brown outline and set the outline’s line Type to Dotted (adjacent to fill). We set the size of the text box to 4 x 6 inches so that it will fill most of the card and leave 0.5 inch of blue border surrounding the card. Since the design runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. Pair it with a Chocolate A7 envelope and add Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Extreme Tip

Shape up your border
The shape tool in PrintingPress Pro Extreme 4.0 makes it easy to add a splash of color or a pattern to your stationery. With the frame feature, you can add extra design elements to your shape. In this month’s dinner party invitations, we filled a rectangle shape with a pattern. Create a shape by choosing Shape, Insert Shape in the Design menu. In the Frame details section, set the shape’s frame width to 0.2 inches. Click on the Frame button to set the frame’s background to white. Next we set the frame Fill type to Image. Click on the Choose button to select the image that you want to put in the frame. We used an image from the paisley pattern to repeat within the frame. Adjust the value in the Spacing field to increase or decrease the distance between the repeated images. If you’re using a pattern like the one in this month’s project, you can set the Outline and Inner pen to 2 pts and then use the Sample Color tool in the Color menu to match the lines to a color in the pattern.
